31 may: went to victoria concert hall with darren and co. to support eugene at his concert. it was splendid. =)

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of Crystal Skull

1 june: watched indiana jones and the kingdom of crystal skull. it was a complete disappointment given that imdb rated it a pretty decent 7.2 stars. the movie’s so unoriginal, boring, and at times, absurd. although there were occasionally a couple of comic relief here and there, it didn’t manage to salvage me from my boredom..

hmmm..perhaps movies of this kind are just not my cup of tea.

today: the day started off with math lecture on trigonometry. my….the speed at which the teacher taught was overwhelmingly intense..like some kind of bullet train. haha.

i was so tired that i slept on the train and missed my stop. i ended up at tiong and decided to have lunch there with zhao peng. pretty convenient huh? lol.

time for a new blog song! here’s michael bublé with a track called “everything”…one of my favourite songs from his album. =D

enough said for today. will blog again soon (i hope)…

hacked, again.

this post is regarding the downtime of my webby since Sunday because of an explosion.

this is quite a dramatic story..

From: Douglas J. Erwin, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of The Planet

As previously committed, I would like to provide an update on where we stand following Sunday’s explosion in our H1 data center. First, I would like to extend my sincere thanks for your patience during the past 28 hours.

As you have read, we have begun receiving some of the equipment required to start repairs. While no customer servers have been damaged or lost, we have new information that damage to our H1 data center is worse than initially expected. Three walls of the electrical equipment room on the first floor blew several feet from their original position, and the underground cabling that powers the first floor of H1 was destroyed.

There is some good news, however. We have found a way to get power to Phase 2 (upstairs, second floor) of the data center and to restore network connectivity. We will be powering up the air conditioning system and other necessary equipment within the next few hours. Once these systems are tested, we will begin bringing the 6,000 servers online. It will take four to five hours to get them all running.

It appears there was an electrical explosion in the underground conduit that brings utility power into the data center. The explosion and electrical fire damaged, beyond repair, the electrical gear where the utility service enters the building as well as the transfer switch and main distribution panel that feeds the first floor of the data center.

The damage was unbelievable.

We are lucky that no one was in that room or near it when the explosion occurred. Just to personalize the situation, one of our technicians who typically does his perimeter patrol at the time of the explosion was late, helping a customer. We’ve all heard stories: “If we had been in that particular place just a few minutes earlier, our lives would have been different.” How fortunate we are that this young man was helping a customer. It gives me great pause because the server destroyed all four walls of that electrical room where he would have been.

As you know, we worked closely with the fire department, and they did not allow us to use our onsite backup generators for safety reasons, which we understood.

We’re not out of the woods, but we feel good about where we are.

I realize this has been a horrendous experience for you. It is an unfortunate scenario, no matter how you look at it. Many of you have been very generous in your comments about our team, and I assure you that it has been appreciated by everyone.

then qiao yi and ren wei messaged me at 5 just now to ask if my blog was hacked. i thought she meant the server downtime because of the above incident. i didn’t realise that it was really hacked until i tried logging in myself. well, apparently it was hacked by some stupid saudi arabian as*hole, making use of a loophole during the initial server reboot. omg, hackers are such a pain in the ass…

back to life: had a 2½ hour physics lecture today, which was über boring. after that we had lunch at tiong, followed by a childish time at the tiong playground. =D

schoolday

well, nothing particularly interesting happened today. so this post will be pretty much a boring narration…

woke up at 7:30am to meet zhao peng and shermaine at redhill mrt before going to school. true to my prediction, shermaine was late (as usual). she was late because she had trouble swallowing dumplings if i’m not wrong…haha. and i was (ahem..) gracefully reminded that tomorrow is “dumpling” day. anyways, we went to mcdonald’s jurongpoint to have a quick breakfast. we were acutely unaware that our econs presentation lesson was at 9am. well actually, i had the feeling that it was at 9am so i asked zhao peng to confirm. zhao peng confidently declared that the presentation session starts at 9:30am. i consigned because zhao peng is usually the more trustworthy one. so we took our own sweet time at mcdonald’s enjoying our sausage mcmuffin as minutes swaggered by like nobody’s business. it was not until zhao peng received a call from girish that we realised i was right. by then it was already 9:15am, so we rushed off hurriedly to catch the bus. we managed to reach school at 9:35am, which was an ostentatious 35 minutes late. fortunately, ms audrey lim was understanding enough and annulled her initial decision to deduct our AP points. =D

oh…our econs presentation was a resounding success. all the hard work and effort that i’ve put into the powerpoint has paid off. haha. i sincerely beg for your pardon, but please do allow me some room to brag a little.

quote ms lim:
“this is the best powerpoint presentation that i have seen among all my classes.”
“the powerpoint is professionally done.”
“(to the class) you guys should take this powerpoint as a learning example. it will help you greatly for your project work.”

okay…my apologies for being egoistic. haha. alright alright. my group members do have credit for the various roles they’ve played in the econs project okay! zhao peng, the group leader, for burning midnight oil to provide data input for the written report. shermaine for googling for statistics, and graphs, effort in oral presentation and (ahem…) complaining that she doesn’t have powerpoint. bin ming for his initial statistics input and poised attitude which resulted in the successful oral presentation. =D

okay okay! enough on the presentation already..

Made of Honor

alright…after the econs presentation, we went to jurongpoint to catch a movie due to the long break that we had. we watched “Made of Honor”, a romance/comedy movie that imdb rated 5.1/10 stars. personally, i’d rate it 6.5/10 as it wasn’t exactly a bad movie. neither was it excellent. hmmm. i’m too tired now to write a full review of the movie. so if you’re looking for better reviews, you can try this for a start: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0866439/usercomments.

oh did i mention we underestimated the movie runtime that we had to leave the cinema prematurely and ended up 45 minutes late for the econs lecture..? haha…so much for punctuality.

I will not be late again…

alright! that’s all for today, especially where it’s a relatively long post. (see…zhao peng. happy now?)

close to nature

yesterday: went to henderson wave and hortpark. the scenery there was beautiful.

View from the Henderson Wave

view from the henderson wave.

Never-ending steps

some secluded place near henderson wave. it’s mount faber i think….

HortPark

@ HortPark.

Cotton Tree

this is a cotton tree, taken at HortPark. pretty nice pic right..? lol.

Centipedes

this is one huge centipede. there were millions of them crawling around in HortPark. kinda reminded me of acs(i) last year, where there were thousands of these crawling everywhere after the construction of the new school campus. eugene and i went around collecting these creepy crawlies in a bottle and poured concentrated hydrochloric acid into it. yeah…we were nuts…must have been the o level stress affecting our minds. haha.

anyways, it was pretty relaxing enjoying the lush greenery and fresh air…=D

shoutbacks!

  • zhaopeng // hey whatever. i won’t get cheated easily. i’m kinda disappointed that we got lower than my expectations for the first essay. yes…get bin ming to start doing the essay. i think he’s stagnant.

!!

i’m seriously so pissed after today’s project work meeting. it seems that no one is taking the work seriously. although we made quite a significant progress in this meeting, we’re not working as a team at all. it’s only a fraction of the members that are seriously contributing. others are simply playing neopets and surfing the web. at this rate, i don’t think we’ll ever score for pw. this is, by far, the worst project group i’ve ever encountered. i’m on the verge of giving up now…

shoutbacks!

  • Ade // hello!
  • Qiao Yi // actually zihui’s the main organiser. so i’ll confirm the details with everyone as soon as she contacts me.

new template

upgraded wordpress…

created a new blog theme. i think the colours don’t really match well. but i’m pretty exhausted to change it at the moment.

i’m not sure if this theme is better than the previous one. what do you think?

anyways, i just saw apple’s keynote address at the Worldwide Developers Conference. they’re unveiling the iPhone 3G which is pretty hot..! GPS, 3G etc. at just half the price of the original iPhone. that’s very tempting…haha. can’t wait to lay my hands on it… =D

  • mich // haha. well, i said i was on the verge of giving up…but even as i sleep, i keep dreaming of what can be done to improve on pw.. i’m going nuts! zz. good luck for your pw!
  • zhaopeng // yea i received it already. it’s quite well done i think.
  • square // long time no see too! xD. yea i know. i’ll have to get used to it i guess.

Wasted

nothing much happened today. i’m just rotting at home….

new blog song, “wasted” by carrie underwood, american idol 4 winner.

Carrie Underwood

Standing at the back door
She tried to make it fast
One tear hit the hard wood
It fell like broken glass
She said sometimes love slips away
And you just can’t get it back
Let’s face it

For one split second
She almost turned around
But that would be like pouring rain drops
Back into a cloud
So she took another step and said
I see the way out and I’m gonna’ take it

I don’t wanna’ spend my life jaded
Waiting to wake up one day and find
That I’ve let all these years go by
Wasted

Another glass of whisky but it still don’t kill the pain
So he stumbles to the sink and pours it down the drain
He says it’s time to be a man and stop living for yesterday
Gotta face it.

Cause’ I don’t wanna’ spend my life jaded
Waiting to wake up one day and find
That I’ve let all these years go by
Wasted

Oh I don’t wanna’ keep on wishing, missing
The still of the morning, the color of the night
I ain’t spending no more time
Wasted

She kept drivin’ along
Till the moon and the sun were floating side-by-side
He looked in the mirror and his eyes were clear
For the first time in a while

Hey, yeah,
Oh, I don’t wanna’ spend my life jaded
Waiting to wake up one day and find
That I’ve let all these years go by
Wasted

Oh I don’t wanna’ keep on wishing, missing
The still of the morning, the color of the night
I ain’t spending no more time
Wasted

og outing

urgh..my theme’s such a failure. doesn’t look nice at all. that’s why i reverted back to my previous one so that i can work on a new theme. nvm…

yesterday: og outing to orchard rd. as usual, a fraction of the og turned up although this time wasn’t as bad as the previous “mini” gathering where 3 guys and 1 girl attended. we were supposed to meet at somerset and i was a little late cos i took the wrong bus. when i finally reached somerset station, i was greeted very graciously by zihui. haha.

anyways, we watched kung fu panda at cineleisure. i was pleasantly surprised as the movie’s actually pretty decent, despite it being kinda kiddish…

oh. yesterday happens to be the first time i took a neoprint..haha.

we had our dinner at mos burger.

that’s more or less what we did yesterday, and of course, with the usual practice of burning time in between activities.

today: got a sneak peek at Coldplay’s latest album, Viva La Vida. it is set to release in Singapore on 16 June i think. i managed to get the songs from my bro who’s in japan. haha.Coldplay - Viva La Vida

i’ve just finished listening to all the tracks and i’ve to say i’m thoroughly impressed. this is one great album and definitely indispensable, not only for coldplay die-hards, but also for all alternative rock listeners. i feel that this is coldplay’s best studio album to date. i’d give a 4.5/5 rating, cos nothing’s perfect…haha.

oh anyways, in case i’m not blogging in the next few days… good luck ren wei. hope yr medical screening goes as smoothly and painlessly as possible. and ermm…after your checkup, report your findings to me, like the mean number of times required to stick the needle in correctly to draw blood etc.. wishing u all the best! oh darn. i’m so dreading NS…

Edited: Friday, 13 June 20088:36 pm

rotting…

ahh.. i’ve no mood to study math…and the paper is just 2 days away! for the past few days i’ve been practically slacking like mad, watching tv etc.. can u believe i actually wasted the whole of yesterday watching the entire season 1 of heroes..? omg. i’m so dead…my study to slacking ratio is around 1:100000. guess i’m gonna force myself to guzzle coffee and mug till dawn..

i need motivation!

  • guest_8374 // i’m guessing you’re someone from AC and from the class of 4.5 david. am i right..? haha. okay, so who are you?
  • zihui // haha. i wasn’t serious in my post. but nevertheless, i wouldn’t mind being greeted more graciously. lol. =D
  • mich // okay…i’ve done it. wow, your project’s quite interesting. btw, i read somewhere that biofuels are causing more harm than good.

testaphobia

how well will i fail for the math test?
sigh..what’s over is over and i don’t want to ponder over it anymore.

at least my other half of the day has been pretty cheerful and enjoyable. had pepper lunch at imm where zp and jstine started discussing on the weird and taboo topic of trannies. haha. it was a pretty…erm…interesting conversation. any mention of it on my blog will bring its rating to M18, so i’ll just stop here.

after which we window-shopped (which was pretty boring to me but apparently appealed to the feminine beings in our coterie). oh..and i saw andrew and co. at balithai restaurant @ imm. long time since i’ve last seen them and i was intending to join them for a movie at cineleisure…BUT, i gave in, after much hesitation, to the unbearable begging and oppressive whining of fellow zp, cheating and sher, who wanted to play tennis at my house so badly…zzz. so off we headed…to my house.

well, the tennis session was pretty exhausting but fun. and…i pwned zhao peng! lol. what can i say..? i’m such a natural at the game. (alright…i can tell that your eyes are going sore reading my superlative comments). lol. anyways, sher-ting was complaining that i’m fierce. well, that was news to me cos i thought cheating was the fiercest among everyone..but apparently, zp corrected me that jays-fong-xiu-wen were the ferocious in our coterie. haha.

alright then…guess enough has been said for a day which started off gloomy but ended in lustre.

new blog song again! from jason mraz’a new album, “we sing, we dance, we steal things”.

quizz

yesterday: the last day of holidays

it was a pretty fun day. a simple get-together session organised by me didn’t turn out really well in terms of attendance but nonetheless, i enjoyed it pretty much. it has always been a custom of mine to spend the last day of hols fully immersed in fun and enjoyment & i was hoping to extend this mood to the chemists. haha..=D so, a big thank you to kelly, yuen fong and ziyu for going yesterday..otherwise i wouldn’t be able to entertain myself. i really hope that you guys had fun too..cos i’m a sucker for planning gatherings (as proven in many of the failed OG gatherings i organised).
btw, just some clarification for yuen fong and kelly – i do like the food at spize (really!) and i enjoy the atmosphere there…recall: the smell of food, the sound of sizzling oil, the big cat, the indians…etc, although it wasn’t a restaurant (emphasize: which i don’t mind at all!).
oh speaking of the cat, a pretty queer incident involving kelly and the cat happened at spize. the cat appeared to be attracted to kelly for some reason (perhaps it was because she didn’t bathe…haha. alright just kidding..). the big brown cat sat under kelly’s chair at first, then it started to get all comfy and lay down to sleep, right under kelly. haha. kelly was fussing around and complaining, somewhat exasperated, saying that she can’t eat with the cat under her chair. it was quite funny. i think yuen fong said something like the cat feels at home sitting under a banana. (cos kelly was wearing some bright yellow dress and did looked like a banana xD xD).
Kelly & The Cat
a pretty lame drawing i made of the incident. haha. don’t expect much from me. i’m not much of an artist. lol. anyways, we watched the new comedy “Get Smart” at great world. steve carell is damn funny can!
Get Smart
all in all, it’s quite a hilarious movie and i enjoyed it very much. =D

the quiz
here you go, egoh!

01. Do you need most now?
motivation to study and lot$ of ca$h.. =D

02. Where will you go if someone sponsors you a tour ticket?
all around the world duh.

03. What’s your favorite thing to do?
erm..sleep. watching tv, hanging out with friends.

04. Do you think money can buy happiness?
depends greatly on the situation. but nope…i think it can’t most of the time, although it wouldn’t hurt to have loads of it as it can definitely bring me much $ati$faction. =)

05. If you can have one dream to come true, what would it be?
this sounds kinda cliche, but i will certainly wish for more dreams to come true. hehe.

06. Do you prefer a kiss or a hug?
i don’t know. perhaps a hug..? saliva has germs. xD

07. What are you afraid to lose the most?
space and time.

08. If you win $1 million, what would you do?
first, i’d celebrate by treating everyone i know out for some high-class dinner at some posh restaurant. haha. then i’ll buy whatever i’d dream of owning, and invest the rest so that i’ll have more $$.

09. List out 3 good points of the person who tagged you?
1 – smart and positively outspoken. 2 – smart and has the capacity to lead others. 3 – smart and very friendly.

10. What makes you happy?
having fun..? and not having to study!

11. What type of person do you hate the most?
i don’t know. i’ve never hated anyone to such an extent so far.

12. Where do you see yourself 10 years down the road?
10 years down the road…which means i’ll be 27 by then. it’s hard to predict.

13. If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
i’d want to be hiro nakamura, who can “bend the space-time continuum”. haha. oh wait..peter petrelli is a much better choice. he’s able to mimic powers. how cool is that huh…

14. What do you think is the most important thing in your life?
at this point, i can’t think of anything other than being happy, stress-free and contented.

15. Any childhood memories you’ll like to re-live?
i’ve no childhood. haha.

16. How old do you want to get married?
i can’t foresee the future unless question number 13 comes true.

17. What’s the most pressing thing you would like to do in a new-born relationship?
to cherish it..?

18. Are you courageous enough to go and tell the person that you like he/she?
maybe.

19. Do you think you’re pretty/handsome?
i’ve a pretty handsome character and attitude..haha.

20. What are you doing right now beside replying this tag?
helping my bro with his school work (which is quite a chore!) and trying to source for information for project work, which is nothing fancy or worth mentioning in detail.
Instructions: Remove 1 question from above, and add in your personal question, make it a total of 20 questions, then tag 8 people in your list, list them out at the end of this post. Notify them in their chat box that he/she has been tagged.

today: the first day of school

the new timetable is out. break times are reduced to almost half of previous, which essentially translates to total saturation of tutorials and lectures. )= sigh…
i flunked my math test, as in really really flunked it. )= sigh…
there’s physics spa trial and chem test tomorrow and i haven’t studied yet. )= sigh…
this is bad…

off i go then…to study for chem.

the time of my life

don’t know why i feel so pissed off today at school…anyways, the visit to eugene’s house after school perked me up loads. his mum is really kind and friendly, as usual. it has been long time since i last went to his house. to my surprise, khalis was there too. so were faisal and ersha. they seemed to be doing quite well.

anyways, we played multiplayer resistance on eugene’s ps3. it was pretty intense and fun.  it was so intense that we swore our asses off like maggots. haha. i haven’t played that game in ages, but nonetheless, for a noob, i guess i can pretty much be considered a pro. haha. after which, eugene gave me a 1-to-1 guitar lesson in prep for my soon-to-commence bass guitar course. he’s a natural at guitar. the way he shredded on his $5000 les paul gibson custom is truly some awesome sh*t. xD…i’m really lucky to have such a great friend like him. =D haha.

i kinda miss the AC life.. can’t wait to meet up with the “arsonists” of 4.5 to talk crap. =D

anyways, here’s a new blog song for the week. i’ve been thinking whether i should upload something which i favour, but of a different genre from usual, like the dance pop track “4 Minutes” by Madonna, but i reckon it’s not going to appeal to many. so here’s a usual pop song. It’s a pleasant song by the most recent american idol winner David Cook, called “The Time of My Life”. =D

David Cook

The Time of My Life
I’ve been waiting for my dreams
To turn into something
I could believe in
And looking for that
Magic rainbow
On the horizon
I couldn’t see it
Until I let go
Gave into love and watched all the bitterness burn
Now I’m coming alive
Body and soul
And feelin’ my world start to turn

And I’ll taste every moment
And live it out loud
I know this is the time,
This is the time
To be more than a name
Or a face in the crowd
I know this is the time
This is the time of my life
Time of my life

Holding onto things that vanished
Into the air
Left me in pieces
But now I’m rising from the ashes
Finding my wings
And all that I needed
Was there all along
Within my reach
As close as the beat of my heart

So I’ll taste every moment
And live it out loud
I know this is the time,
This is the time to be
More than a name
Or a face in the crowd
I know this is the time
This is the time of my life
Time of my life

And I’m out on the edge of forever
Ready to run
I’m keeping my feet on the ground
My arms open wide
My face to the sun

I’ll taste every moment
And live it out loud
I know this is the time,
This is the time to be
More than a name
Or a face in the crowd
I know this is the time
This is the time of my life
Time of my life
More than a name
Or a face in the crowd
This is the time
This is the time of my life.
This is the time of my life.
