LAUSANNE, Switzerland – Singapore will host the inaugural Youth Olympics in 2010, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced on Thursday.
It won the right to stage the Games in a straight contest up against Moscow. It will be the first time that the Asian city-state has hosted a multi-disciplinary sporting event of such a magnitude.
The brainchild of IOC chief Jacques Rogge, the Youth Olympics will feature traditional sports such as athletics and swimming, but also some innovative events such as beach-wrestling and BMX bike riding.
Rogge made the announcement himself from the IOC headquarters in Lausanne.
The Games will see 3,500 athletes aged between 14 and 18 competing in 26 sports.
Singapore is proposing 24 venues, with four being built as temporary facilities, including one large cluster of 13 in its Marina-Kallang area.
The Youth Olympic Village would be located at a new student residential complex at the National University of Singapore, slated for completion months before the event. – AFP

congrats to team jj supporters who were down at padang.
okay. i’ll be f.cking screwed tomorrow. after dismissal today, zen and i tried to exit at 12 plus and nearly got caught by mr handsome. we ran away when he got out of his car. he’ll most probably start questioning and threatening the cohort tomorrow. i don’t know what to do now, really. i’m in deep shit!! God, save me!
anyways, we used the exit today cos we were in a rush to head back to acs(i) to look for teachers to help us with our appeal. praying hard i won’t get expelled. that’s the last damn thing i would want.
and sorry for the post yesterday. i was in a really bad mood that’s why i was 损-ing everyone like crazy. JJC campus is not as bad as how i had described it to be. at least they have a synthetic field and air-conditioned classrooms. and J1 OGLs are not that bad either. heard they’ve put in a lot of hard work and effort during their training. orientation admin day, although boring, is not retarded. pearlyn and the J1 emcee, you’re not fat, you’re just fleshy (haha. that’s the same thing but put in a nicer term).
i’m saying all these because i’m going to die tomorrow…
thanks to ms au , ms fiona ho and mr kan at acs(i) for agreeing to write a recommendation letter for me. i’m grateful for that.
goodbye everyone.
